Hey there! I’m Anja.

My passion is documenting families and showing how unique and beautiful they are. Recording a family at a particular moment in time is very important to me because people and circumstances change so quickly. Just consider how fast the kids are growing up. Unbelievable! Beautiful photography where all of the family members are visible is the key. I like to combine this with a beautiful location and stunning light to make the images even more special.

Landscape photography was my first love in photography. I adore taking photographs of stunning mountains, waterfalls and rivers in beautiful light.

However, for a year and a half, I have been focusing more and more on photographing families. It took me a while to find out what exactly my approach would be and what would give me the same satisfaction as taking landscape photos.

This is my portfolio website. Here you can find a selection of my best work so far. I am continually learning and improving. So, my images will change and this site will reflect that.

As a daily practice, I photograph my son a lot and if he is on "strike", I take pictures of wildlife (mostly birds and squirrels and the like) close to my house. I also love to capture images of beautiful flowers. When I am not travelling, working on my photographs or taking care of my family, you can find me in my kitchen baking bread rolls or on the couch reading steamy romance novels that take place in the highlands (preferably 🙂).

If you are dying to know more, here are three things most people don’t know about me

- While growing up my mother did not take photos of herself or me for years. I grow up in the former GDR, and it took six weeks to have some black and white photos developed. Often people did not bother. That might be a reason why I love photography so much these days, especially of families because I am still sad about the years I cannot look back on in photographs.

– I lived 5 1/2 years in San Francisco, California. So I believe that Edinburgh and San Francisco have many similarities. The closeness to the sea, the narrow streets with the lovely coffee shops as well as the open and friendly inhabitants.

– Once I had the opportunity to see and hear Diana Gabaldon - the author of Outlander - live in Edinburgh. That was in the summer of 2009, and I already was a huge fan of her books. What an awesome lady? (By the way, if you are into audiobooks you should check out the Outlander series narrated by Davina Porter. Seriously good!)

Thank you for reading my story!
